Do you have a used spinning wheel you wouldn't mind parting with?

I am a young spinner just beginning to work with wheels. I did a very

small amount of wheel spinning when I was very young, but now I am 19

and looking to expand my knowledge. I have been spinning on a spindle

for awhile, and I really want to move up. I am willing to pay for it,

but I don't have much money at my disposal. I am, however willing to

travel quite far to get it (I'll make a trip out of it). Email me at

rakala@gmail.com or call 651.645.5711. Thank you very much.

Do you have any socks that you could donate to an art project? Socks with
holes in them? Unfashionable socks? Odd socks? Unwearable novelty socks?

I'm a Sydney artist currently undertaking a Master of Fine Arts degree at
the College of Fine Arts, UNSW. I’m looking for people to donate socks for
an art piece. I'm cutting up socks and weaving them into a carpet. Each pair
of socks (or number of pairs, or odd socks) is a surrogate for the person
who has donated them. They will be woven into panels, with each panel
identified by number. The donors’ names will be presented with the piece, so
all the socks can be traced and recognised.

The work is a form of memorial, but one in which the participants are all
living. The work examines the nature of memorials and monuments, and their
role in society. Who and what does society choose to commemorate? And by
what means? The work also examines notions of group formation, and the way
identity is often formed through inclusion in arbitrary groups.

If you wish to donate some socks, please post them to:

Rodney Love,
PO BOX 547,
Kings Cross, NSW, 1340
Australia

It is important for the work that the socks be identified with a particular
person, so please include your name with the (preferably washed) socks.

Thank you

Rodney Love
