Schacht has built a lifetime of service into their hand carders. They have a small lip milled into the rear edge of the paddle to protect the card clothing from becoming worn and the handles have been precisely tenoned into the paddles for superior strength.
Schacht's wool carders are available in two gauges of carding cloth: 72 points per square inch (an all-purpose carding cloth), and 112 points per square inch (great for fine wool and downy fibers). All carders are available with curved or straight
backs and they have a carding area of 7 3/4" x 5". Their cotton carders are wider
than their wool carders (carding area of 10 1/2" x 4") and are also available with curved or straight-backed paddles. With 208 points per square inch,
the cotton cards are excellent for cotton and other short fibers. New in
2009 - see the mini hand cards below!
Handles on all Schacht hand carders are 5 3/4" long.
The mini carders are a pint-sized version of Schacht's curved wool cards. At about half the
weight (9 ounces), they are an easy size to take to a class or on a road trip, or just out and about with your drop spindle.
3" x 3" carding area. Available only with 72psi carding cloth.

Schacht's flick carder is a small, single carder with 72 points per inch. It is used to separate and tease fibers in preparation for spinning by working the fiber against either a stiff piece of leather or heavy canvas.
Carding area measures 3 7/8" x 3 15/16." Weight is 5 oz. and handle
length is 5 3/4."
Strauch Handcards A full compliment of hand cards are offered. Pictures of the curved wood pad series are shown; this same series of hand cards are also available in the flat wood style.
They are made entirely of light-weight poplar wood.
As to handle design, when you close your hand, notice that your fingers and palm form a cylinder. Having straight handles makes each pair comfortable and easy to use.
All hand cards are sealed with Tung Oil and need only to be occasionally cleaned with a high quality liquid lemon oil furniture polish.

Riser Brush Think of it as the “finger-sized flicker” for your
wool locks! A small, fine, soft wire brush which is held between 2
fingers or on a finger. Originally used to fluff up yarn - specifically
designed to fluff Bunka Cord for embroidery - we find it works great as a
lock flicker and for cleaning handcards. $3.50 #169098

Ashford Drum Carder New two-speed model!
This new, improved model has two ratios for even more flexibility and control when carding and blending:
Use the 6:1 ratio to prepare your fleece. The controlled intake and carding will produce a smooth even batt ready for blending, spinning or felting.
Use the 4:1 ratio to blend sliver, colors and different fiber types consistently into an open and airy batt.
The new carder retains the adjustable drum clearance - allows you to set the teeth distance for total control of your
fiber. All nylon bearings ensure it is light and easy to turn. The card cloth has wire teeth with a special protective coating and a flexible rubber backing for long life. The carder is strong and robust with the body made from Silver Beech hardwood. The carder has rubber feet to prevent it slipping. Card

Drum Carder Packer Brush
(Add-on Kit for Ashford Standard Drumcarders)

in a thicker batt. It helps control fine low crimp fibers such as mohair,
angora and alpaca. No holes to drill, simply attach the two brackets under the top bolts, fit the packer in place
and start carding.

Replacement cloth for Ashford drum carders. Set of two
pieces, for both the large and small drum. The piece for the large drum measures
approximately 20 3/4" by 8" and the piece for the small drum measures
approximately 7 1/4" by 8."
Louet Drumcarders are made of laminated birch and have a hard white coating. The drums of the carders are
7 1/2" wide. In order to ensure a long life, the teeth on all Louët carders are made of high grade plated steel wire. All gearboxes (except for the Elite drumcarder) are enclosed to prevent fibers
from entering the gear system.
All drumcarders are equipped with a doffer brush, doffer pin and two table clamps to clamp it onto a sturdy table. An instruction manual written by well known author and fiber artist Deb Menz is also included with all drumcarders.
For drumcarders it is common to mention the gear ratio that drives the licker-in when you rotate the large drum. For this drumcarder it is 3.8:1. However, what really counts for carding is the ratio of the surface speed of both drums. You get this by multiplying the gear ratio with the ratio of the diameters of the large drum and the licker-in. This surface speed ratio is 9:1 for the
Classic and 12:1 for the Standard drumcarder
Weight: 18lbs
The Classic Drumcarder has a cloth of 46 teeth per square inch
and the Standard has a cloth of 72 teeth per square inch.

The batts produced on this 4” wide carder weigh as much as
the batts produced on a traditional full size carder. The 1/2” teeth and the10"
diameter of the drum make this possible.
The carder gets its name from the 4” wide roving-like batts it produces. The
drum size is 10” x 4” wide. The fine cloth has 72 teeth./sq inch. Otherwise
identical to the drum carder, this instrument is a powerful tool for all
spinners and felters alike.
