Kromski spinning wheels!
Coming in March 2010 - The
Fantasia!
The Fantasia
The newest in the Kromski collection. Yes, thoroughly modern in every aspect, but the concept and design are obviously Kromski.
What is not obvious is a new-style single drive flyer design. The whorl is changeable for different speeds; to change bobbins, the front of the flyer simply pulls off - no drive band to deal with. Very fast bobbin change. The flyer also has sliding hooks. And both the flyer and the wheel spin on sealed ball bearings for a truly smooth feel.
The Fantasia is made of European alder and available in several wood and color combinations.
The Fantasia will arrive with the next container from Poland; sometime in March.

The
Sonata, from the Kromskis of Poland, is a marriage between the classic
architecture and design concepts shared with all other Kromski wheels and the
functional needs of a wheel that folds. You get both.
It is a full-size spinning wheel that folds and packs away as a small
package, making it perfect for traveling, guild and festival gatherings or
simply storage when not in use
The Kromskis have put a lot of thought into the Sonata. Full-size yet small
dimensions when folded, easy to set-up and take down, solid feel, solid
footprint, plenty of foot room, easy treadling on double treadles, orifice at a
comfortable height and classic looks. Spokes that draw your attention, every
piece of wood with cuts, curves and character; this is an appealing spinning
wheel that is a pleasure to use.
Optional
flyers can add to the total range of the Sonata. The Jumbo flyer offers lower
ratios and a larger orifice - 0.7" - and the Faster flyer increases the
ratio range up to 18:1. (final ratios for these flyers to be announced soon.) A
custom-made, heavily padded bag offers you a convenient way to pack-up your
Sonata for travel or storage.

The newest spinning wheel from the Kromskis of Poland. The Prelude is just
the wheel for beginners or perhaps a second Kromski wheel for others. It has the
look of an antique wheel and the high degree of wood turning that the
Kromskis are famous for, but it also has all the touches modern spinners expect.
The Prelude is a single-drive-only wheel; a first for the Kromskis. The good
news here is that it uses the same bobbins as all the other Kromski wheels.
This means that, as you consider adding a second or third Kromski wheel, you
know your bobbins will work with all the different models.
The
Prelude is easy to treadle, easy to transport, and has an 18" diameter
wheel (same as the Kromski Minstrel) for excellent ratios. If you like, you can
swivel the mother-of-all in line with the bench for a more compact
"package" when moving the wheel or for storage.
The Prelude is made of European alder and birch. No Kromski wheel has any
plastic parts and as such makes the perfect wheel for reenactors.
Additional
specifications:
wheel diameter - 18"
orifice height - 26"; size - 3/8"
bobbin size - full 4 oz.; 3 included -
also includes threading hook, attached Lazy Kate, video and bottle of
spinning wheel oil
Ratios: 6, 10.5, and 13 to 1
bearings on wheel shaft, bobbins; leather bearings on flyer
weight - 9 lbs.
in addition to a regular hemp drive band an elastic band will be included
This wheel comes boxed as a kit but goes together quickly. It is available
unfinished or with a factory clear, walnut or mahogany finish that is
exceptional (see a sample of the finishes further down this page). Also
included is an optional elastic drive band (that is dyed to match the walnut
or mahogany stain) which can make this wheel even more enjoyable.
Introducing the Symphony from the Kromskis.
Just the image you would expect a spinning wheel to take. You can picture
the "ladies in waiting" gathered together in the castle spinning as a
group, all on the Symphony.
This wheel has the details spinners have come to expect with
Kromski products - lots of finely turned wood, attention to detail, and all the
features spinners ask for. Start with a good size wheel diameter -
24" - that rotates on bearing sleeves that contribute to effortless
treadling. The double treadles are well engineered to be comfortable
through long spinning sessions. The flyer is double drive but also has
Scotch tensioning for single drive use (at no additional charge). The
bobbins will hold a full 4 oz. package of yarn and they fit on all the other
Kromski wheels if you start a collection.
The Symphony is made of European alder and birch. No Kromski wheel has
any plastic parts and, as such, makes the perfect wheel for re-enactors.
Additional specifications:
wheel diameter - 24"
orifice height - 27"; size - 3/8"
bobbin size - full 4 oz.; 3 included -
also includes threading hook, tensioned Kate and bottle of spinning wheel
oil
Ratios: 7.5, 10, 16 and 20 to 1; 2 whorls included
bearings on wheel shaft, bobbins and treadle; leather bearings on flyer
weight - 15 lbs.
This wheel comes boxed as a kit and requires about an hour to assemble.
The Minstrel, another new spinning wheel from the
Kromskis of Poland, is going to set new standards for castle style wheels.
It features a wide, steady base for the double treadle operation and the wheel,
which is larger than many upright wheels - 18" - is easy to mount on the
two support posts. The third post will mount an optional distaff.
Larger than the Kromski Mazurka, the Minstrel has stronger, bolder lines and
a larger base to accommodate the larger wheel diameter and the double
treadles. It is a double drive wheel but comes standard with Scotch
tension set-up if you prefer the single drive feel. A threading hook and
extra whorl are conveniently stored up front for easy access.
The Minstrel is made of European alder and birch. No Kromski wheel has
any plastic parts and, as such, makes the perfect wheel for re-enactors.
Easy to assemble.
Additional specifications:
wheel diameter - 18"
orifice height - 33"; size - 3/8"
bobbin size - full 4 oz.; 3 included -
also includes threading hook, attached Lazy Kate and bottle of spinning
wheel oil
Ratios: 6.5, 8.5, 12 and 16 to 1; 2 whorls included
bearings on wheel crank and bobbins; leather bearings on flyer
weight - 13 lbs.
Regular Bobbins The Kromski regular bobbins allow you to store a good amount of yarn; about 50% more than many other regular bobbins from other manufacturers.

Lazy Kates
The Kromskis are now making two styles of Lazy Kates - the arched version now comes standard with all Mazurka and Symphony wheels; the upright Kate comes standard with the Polonaise.
The Lazy Kates are very attractive and work just the way you want them to. They hold up to three bobbins. The bobbin rods are heavy metal with a fancy wooden knob on the end.
These tensioned Kates will accommodate most other brands of bobbins including Ashford (standard bobbins), Jensen, Reeves, Timbertops, Majacraft and Lendrum (regular and very fast bobbins).

Spinning
Stool You need to sit just right to spin comfortably. With the Kromski
spinning stool, you can. This sturdy stool has a contoured seat that will
let you spin for hours. The legs have been turned so that you can make a
permanent adjustment to the seat height from 17" to 18.5". If
not for spinning, you will find this stool works well in a variety of
settings.
Add speed range to your Sonata and Prelude with the Jumbo Flyer and Faster Flyer.
The Jumbo Flyer does a lot for you. It adds nearly 2 times the space for yarn over the already great size regular bobbin, so if your are plying or just spinning singles, you can put a lot on a Jumbo bobbin. The orifice on the Jumbo Flyer is
0.7 inches; spin thick yarn or do heavy plies. And the ratios are great for low or medium speeds. For some, this will be the flyer for
general purpose spinning.
Ratios of 5, 7.5, and 10 to 1 on the Sonata and 5.5, 7, and 9:1 to 1 on the
Prelude. Comes with one jumbo bobbin. For extra bobbins, see
above.
The Faster Flyer extends the high end ratios of your wheel. These high-end speeds, coupled with the joy of spinning on a Sonata or Prelude, give you the feeling of a production wheel.
Between this flyer and your regular flyer you have all the speed settings you need. Use the regular bobbins with the Faster Flyer
Faster Flyer on the Sonata has ratios of 12, 16 and 18 to 1 and on the Prelude 11, 14.5 and 16.5 to
1
Jumbo Flyer Kits for the Double Drive Kromski Wheels
Extend the capabilities of your Kromski Polonaise, Symphony or Minstrel wheel by adding a Jumbo Flyer Kit. You can quickly swap out your regular flyer for the jumbo unit (and back again). Here are the benefits: flyer with very large orifice
- .70 inch opening for heavy spinning and plying; much larger jumbo bobbin - holds 50 cubic inches of yarn; lower ratio ranges - 2 speeds
to give you excellent speed choices without changing the flyer. For the Polonaise and Symphony wheels the ratios are: 5 and 7.2:1; for the Minstrel the ratios are: 4 and 5.3:1
Note: parts shown above will vary, based on your wheel model.
NOTE: If you already own a Minstrel and want to add a Jumbo Kit, you must determine the manner in which your front maiden post has been installed on your wheel. If you do not have the current set-up - brass finger nut going up through the base into the maiden - your will need to do some simple woodworking to facilitate the jumbo option. Take a look at
this video from the US importer of Kromski wheels, that will show you a suggested way to easily adapt your Minstrel.
Quick
Change Flyer Set Here is an innovation from the Kromskis that will make
changing bobbins on a double drive set-up easier. The spindle on the flyer
"breaks" at the base of the flyer allowing you to pull off the flyer
and the bobbin without removing the whorl or the drive band from the
whorl. Comes with conversion parts, flyer and three Quick Change bobbins.
Requires different bobbins than what is
standard with all Kromski wheels. This item has
been discontinued - available while supplies last.
Extra
Whorls
These are additional
sizes; the larger (slower) whorl for the upright wheels gives a ratio of 4:1
with the Mazurka and 4.5:1 for the Minstrel. The smaller (speed) whorl gives a
ratio of 25 to 1 with either the Polonaise or Symphony. The larger (slower)
whorl for the Symphony or Minstrel gives a ratio of 5.5 to 1. Unfinished
- available finished by special order.
