CREATIVE HANDMADE PAPER: How To Make Paper from Recycled and Natural
Materials, David Watson. The author explains instructions for making the mold and deckle, and most of
the other things are probably found in your household. There's information
on coloring and scenting, embossing and creating watermarks. By page 11 I
was bowled over by an entire page of stacks of recycled paper. This is the
perfect book for beginning paper makers, for those more experienced and for all
of us who are the slightest interested in how paper is made and how to make it
art, environmentally friendly and use it. Filled with colored photos of
how-tos, ingredients and gorgeous papers, a few black and white diagrams for
identification purposes. 80 pages. Sc, $17.95 #139087 One
copy in stock.
THE HANDMADE PAPER BOOK, Angela Ramsay. The author begins with concise instructions for
papermaking with imaginative suggestions for types of paper to be recycled into
new paper. Semantics aside, she may stretch your idea of what paper can be
made from. Topics covered: botanical inclusions, colorants, sequins, foil,
laminating techniques and making colored borders. For those who love
step-by-step instructions, she shows how to use your new papers for greeting
cards, wrapping papers and ties. Paper from fruit and vegetables or laid
fiber papers produce surprisingly attractive results. Also covered are
embossing and watermarks. Thoroughly illustrated with color photos. 80
pages. Sc, $22.95 #139089 One copy
in stock.
HANDMADE SILK PAPER, Kath
Russon. Who would be enticed by this book? Papermakers
who have tired of the usual fibers and silk lovers (stitchers, textile artists,
et al). Full instructions are given for papermaking with various silk
fibers, such as hanked filaments, throwsters waste, silk tops, bricks, slivers,
blends and wadding, plus other fibers like cotton, sisal, jute, flax, ramie and
cotton wool. The main difference here is the method of holding the fibers
together. "Felting" is accomplished by working methyl cellulose
into the prepared fibers then allowing it to dry. Dying tips are included
along with molding techniques. Each page has one or more color photos.
