TAPESTRY
WEAVING, Kristen Glasbrook
Even if the modernistic samples and bright, primary colors in this book are not
your favorite decorating style, the clear how-to instructions give you
confidence to interpret the techniques into your own preferred designs. Basic
methods are demonstrated through large, color photographs. All the tapestries in
this book were woven on simple, rectangular frames, and you can even adapt an
old picture frame for this purpose, and use rug yarn for the weft. (A valuable
hint to someone who wants to try the skill before investing a lot of money in a
loom.) From a solitary heart to circles, simple landscapes then progress on to a
labyrinth and incredibly detailed side-woven panels. This book is a wealth of
knowledge on the subject of weaving.ISBN: 0855329386 8½"

THE
TECHNIQUES OF PLY-SPLIT BRAIDING, Peter Collingwood.
After scanning over this book, one unfamiliar with the author might be surprised
to know that this is his seventh book on a textile technique. You might
feel that a book so complex and thorough would have taken the author a
lifetime. The author explains in his introduction that this book is for
either the textile pioneer to learn about the ethnic background of this
technique or for an ethnologist to learn a new craft for their studies. We
who love a challenge in our textile studies will find this rare technique well
illustrated and strictly organized. Most of the samples are camel and livestock
trappings and sturdy to the nth power. A modern textile artist will find this
ancient technique a new adventure. Many illustrations and a black and
white gallery of examples of braids and tools. ISBN: 0962558699. 268 pages, hardcover,

THE TECHNIQUES OF SPRANG: Plaiting on Stretched Threads, Peter Collingwood.
When this book came out in 1974 the author was noted for his rug weaving book and his artistic achievements in rug
making and other areas. Since then, his eye has turned to card weaving, ethnic textile culture, and
more books on advanced rug weaving. Sadly, for some time, this book on sprang had gone from print, and copies were hard to find. Now the publishers have re-released this
excellent book on one of the most obtuse textile arts, "plaiting on stretched
thread". ISBN: 1558219307 360 pages, softcover, $35.00 #139165
THE TECHNIQUES OF
TABLET WEAVING, Peter Collingwood.
To finally have this magnificent book available again is just wonderful (This
edition has been re-typeset and rearranged). No other English writer has
been able to so clearly and thoroughly explore a difficult technique. With
photos of historic pieces, many diagrams, and clear text, the author delves so
deeply into areas, like double-face twill patterning, plain/twined weaves,
brocades and patterned velvet, that you'll probably be starting a study group
just to see what some of these patterns look like. Many black and white
photos and illustrations. ISBN: 1566590558. 320 pages, 8 1/4" x
