We’re so excited to be able to offer you Glow in the Dark Fiber! White un-carded fibers glow green in the dark. Crimped recycled polyester fiber is 1.25″ long. Approximately 4 microns in diameter. Available by the ounce or quarter pound.
Fiber is white in the light. After charging by exposing to the sun or a lamp, it will glow green in the dark over an hour! The ability to glow is not affected by washing or water.
How does it glow?
Photoluminescence is a special kind of luminescence, which can absorb light energy then release the energy as light. Phosphorescent materials absorb and store light, then emit visible light slowly over time. It works like so: Photons boost the electrons to jump into a higher level of energy orbit. The energy is then released in the form of light as the electron returns to its ground level.
This fiber is non-radioactive, toxic-free, non-flammable, and harmless – containing no phosphorus or lead, or any other hazardous element or chemical, and can be recharged an infinite number of times. There are many glow-in-the-dark products containing phosphorescent materials in the market nowadays, from mobile phone covers to toys.
So many possibilities with Glow in the Dark Fiber:
- Perfect for spinning or needle felting – also can be used in wet felting if mixed with wool!
- Accent clothing with designs that only show in the dark!
- Create ornaments and decor you can enjoy as you drift off to sleep!
- Stuffed animals are even more fun with faces you can see in the dark!
