Referred to as Russian Combs, Paddle Combs, or Doukhobor combs. Pat Russo handcrafts these paddle combs out of oil-finished cherry wood and polished steel tines. They are not “hand-held” combs – one must be clamped to a table or workbench to be used properly.
As Pat and Robin tell us, “They are a very efficient tool for organizing fiber, and spinning can be done directly from the mounted comb if the spinner can bring her wheel close enough to the table or mounting device. These combs work particularly well on shorter fleeces. They are not intended for very fine fibers.”
Paddles are 7.5″ wide and 10″ long overall (handles are 5″ long). Polished steel tines are approximately 3.5″ long, 3/32″ thick and tapered to a smooth point, set 1/4″ on center in a single row 6.5″ long.
Set includes two combs and mounting device; please note that you will have to provide your own clamps to clamp the mounting device to a table or workbench.
