Crocheted Baby Booties
Designed by Amy Mielke Fits Size: Well, it depends on the baby! These have fit anywhere from 6 mo. to a year. See note in materials for different sizes. Gauge: 2 dc rows = 1" and 4 dc sts = 1" Materials: Worsted weight yarn, hook needed to obtain gauge (F?). NOTE: I often use sport or fingering yarn with an appropriately sized hook to make preemie and newborn booties. Rnd 1: Ch 12 . Dc in third ch from hook THROUGH BACK LOOP (counts as a st when you count at the end of a row throughout pattern). Dc in next 8 sts THROUGH BACK LOOP. 4 dc in next st. This allows you to turn and work in the other side of the stitches. What was the front loop becomes the back loop. Dc in next 8 sts THROUGH THE BACK LOOPS. 2 dc in last st. Join with sl st. [24 sts] Rnd 2: Ch 2. Dc in bottom of ch 2 space. 2 dc in next st. Dc in next 8 sts. 2 dc in each of the next 4 sts. Dc in next 8 sts. 2 dc in each of the last 2 sts. Join with a sl st. Ch 2. [32 sts] Rnd 3: Dc in each st around in the back loops. Join. Ch 2. Rnd 4: Dc in next 11 sts. Dc 2 tog 4 times. Dc in next 12 sts. Join. Ch 2. [28 sts] Rnd 5: Dc in next 3 sts. Dc 2 tog around until last 4 sts. Dc in the last 4 sts. Join. Ch 2. Rnd 6: Dc in each st around. Join. Ch 2. [18 sts] Rnd 7: Dc in bottom of ch 2 space. (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) around. Dc in last st. Join. Finish off. Thread ribbon through rnd 6 of bootie. Or ch 65 for tie, leaving 1 1/2" - 2" tail. Wrap yarn around ruler 30 times, tie middle and make pom-pom. Thread tie through rnd 6 and tie a pom-pom to each end of tie. Variations: #1: Use two colors for yarn. Alternate colors to make stripes. #2: Use two colors of yarn, Main Color (MC) and Contrasting Color (CC). Use CC for rnds 1, 2, 7 and for tie and pom-poms. Use MC for all other rnds.
