"The Native Cotton project was started by Dr. James Vreeland to preserve the indigenous colored cottons of Peru. There is no program to "improve" the fiber properties. The fiber length is about 1/2". "These cottons are grown on small plots tended by Indian women who plant it, harvest it, sort it, spin it, and weave it. It is not grown commercially, so annual quantities are limited. "It is my hope and desire that we are helping the sustainability of the of the people and their products." ~ Eileen Hallman
