Ashford Crank for Spinning Wheels in single or double treadle.
Double treadle cranks are for the wheel listed, but there may be some variations of cranks over the years. So if you have a very old or very new wheel, the cranks may be slightly different. We are also no sure how you would thread the back conrod past the bend in the crank. Ashford says it’s possible. We have not figured out how yet.
Single treadle for your standard single treadle Ashford Traditional wheel. A metal shaft that goes holds the wheel onto the uprights, and attaches to the con rod. 7″ long, black coated metal. 7″ long, made of black coated metal.
You need to select the right crank for the style of conrod you will be using with the wheel.
Type 1 Single crank. This is the crank for most Traditional wheels. If your wooden conrod attaches to the wheel with a round rubberized joint or leather joint, pick Type 1 Single crank.
If you have the newest style conrod, that attaches to the wheel with a black rubber toggle shaped joint, you need Type 2 Single crank.
If you have an older wheel, with the hub pin in the very center of the hub, please order the old style crank.
The new style crank has one hole, and this lines up with the hub pin on the side of the wheel hub.

Note, if you have a VERY old wheel, you need a whole new crank/conrod set up. Ashford no longer makes a crank to replace the oldest style, since it was an inferior design. We offer the Clunky Wheel Kit to fix up a VERY old wheel (see last picture for what the crank looks like). PDF of Instructions
